Top Five Takeaways
Homeboys, Five Guys, KFC, Yo! Sushi, McDonalds. In that order.
I’ll be serious and get on topic in a second, but Homeboys in Nottingham is food from the angels if you haven’t been before. Their chicken katsu is the best you’ll ever have, and their loaded fries are life changing. Anyway, back to weddings.
Whilst I’ve a load of guides that cover a variety of subjects, I’ve pulled together my top five “absolute best pieces of advice” I can give you for your wedding day.
If I find any couples haven’t taken heed of this advice, it’s wedding detention (you have to do the pots on your wedding day).
Slow Down & Heads Up
I don’t know what it is with weddings, but it turns couples into power walking enthusiasts who seemingly love looking at the floor.
Uncle Trev will still be trying to get his confetti out the package by the time you’re down the bottom of the confetti aisle enjoying a glass of fizz.
For the ceremony walk & confetti, slow everything all the way down, get your head up, and enjoy the moment of seeing all your loved ones.
A bit of eye contact with the groom always makes a good picture too (subtle hint…).
Unplug
If you’ve never heard of an “unplugged ceremony” before, it’s where the guests are asked to put the phones & cameras away during the ceremony.
It’s not for everyone, but it means I’ll be able to capture those candid shots of guests enjoying the moment, rather than looking at their phone.
It also minimises the chances of Uncle Bob stepping in front of me with his camera during that all important first kiss shot.
If you mention it to your registrar, they’ll lay down the law with your guests.
Say no to stress
You’ll always have a key wedding person who will flap at the thought of an issue (yes, I’m talking about mothers...).
By having a conversation with bridesmaids, groomsmen, and family members asking them to simply deal with any hiccups instead of putting them on your plate, it will guarantee you an enjoyable stress free day.
You’ll also likely have some very experienced suppliers on hand who will have dealt with plenty of issues before, and will be ready to step in.
The more you enjoy your wedding day, the better the photographs will be!
Make time
It’s really tempting to have your day planned down to the minute, but in reality that just won’t happen.
Make sure you’ve left time to have a bit of a moment once you’re in the dress, take a breather with your bridesmaids before the big “I do”, and having some chill time with your partner to have those “oh shit we’re married” moments.
These will be some of the most memorable parts of your wedding day, and some of the best photographs when they’re not rushed.
Enjoy it!
Sounds a big obvious, right?
With the whirlwind that is a wedding, it’s really easy to lose sight of what’s important. You’ve probably spent years meticulously planning your day, making sure all guests are suitably fed and entertained.
You do however need to remember who the day is all about - you.
This is your day to enjoy. Be a bit selfish if you need to be - you should absolutely be putting your happiness ahead of anyones in your wedding day. Do whatever you need to do, to ensure you enjoy your day.
